Ohio Valley Member Chosen For 2012 Seniors World Team Championships

The USTA has announced that Gabriel Venter from Blue Ash, OH will rep will represent the United States at the 32nd ITF Seniors World Team Championships. The nation’s top tennis players in age groups 35+ to 55+ will compete against teams from 35 counties coming from around the globe February 6-11, 2012. The event will be held at seven different sites in the San Diego, CA area. Over 1,000 athletes are expected to participate.
Joining Venter, representing the United States at the 2012 ITF Seniors World Team Championships in the Italia Cup for men 35 & over, are Rob Collins from Houston, Stuart Duncan from Aliso Viejo, CA and Mark Tepes from Medford, NJ.
Venter was selected for the team on the basis of his strong record compiled in 2011. In 2011 Venter won four tournaments including two senior circuit events -- Westwood Championships and Midwest Championships. Venter finished 3rd in singles at the USTA National Indoor Championships and 2nd at the USTA National Grass Court Championships where he won the doubles with fellow team member Mark Tepes.
Venter graduated from Oral Roberts University in 1999.
The United States is the defending champion in five of the 10 divisions at the Men’s and Women’s Senior Championships.
Following the ITF Seniors World Team Championships, the ITF Senior World Individual Championships will take place February 12-19 at some of the same sites in the San Diego area.
The ITF Seniors/Super-Seniors World Team Championships is the most coveted team event on the ITF Seniors circuit. Since its inception, the number of competitors attracted to this event has increased year by year. In 1993, the ITF took the decision to divide the Seniors World Championships into two groups, Seniors for the younger veterans and Super-Seniors for the older players.
